I am a 4th grader and I noticed a second grader on the blacktop at my school was crying. Instead of just walking by I came up to him and asked, "What happened?" He told me another 4th grader came by and hit him in the head. Then I asked him what the 4th grader looked like. I noticed he started to calm down when I talked to him. He described him to me and then our playground teacher saw us. She wanted to know what happened, and she was so impressed that we stopped to help a younger child. My act helped a younger student to feel better, and I felt good that I took the time to help him.

I was in the store, in line with my daughter to purchase gift cards for teachers’ appreciation week. The cashier noticed and said “You must be shopping for teacher appreciation week.” I laughed and said “How did you know lol”. Then the cashier said “She’s a teacher too,” and pointed to the woman behind me. I asked the woman what do teachers really want for appreciation week and she said, “Giftcards but I don’t ever get any..”. I asked her why and she said, “Well I teach high school so…”. I was disappointed in her response. Every teacher no matter what grade level deserves to be appreciated. Just doesn’t stop at the elementary level. So….I took my things to the car….then I went back inside the store….asked for a gift card. Then I ran to the woman’s car and told her, “This is for you! Please know that all teachers should be appreciated! You have a tough job and know that I appreciate you!” She started crying and thanking me!!

I wish to bring peace to all. Peace in their hearts, peace in their eyes and peace in their lives. Thus, I try to help those that are stressed and show them the better picture. In the end, it’s whether they want to accept it but I hope that my act is kind.

I recently saw a guy working weeding a patch of garden in our neighborhood - and decided to step up and offer my help. Turns out the community garden is in severe need of help - and by stepping up I'm able to help the gardener and his two active volunteers. I involved my two young sons, one who loves to garden, and the other is a little smaller so just learning what it means to foster the land. I'm working with the guy who set up the community garden to offer more opportunities for locals to help maintain the garden and to help Wally (the gardener) get his vision for the space realized. I'm interested in creating a space where kids are welcome to learn about where food grows and how simple it can be to grow food locally. I'm glad I looked for an opportunity to help someone out and can use my knowledge and skills to create a space for my community.
